Whiny Little Brat

I miss my pathetic whiny self who used to blog way back in 2009 about things that don't go my way, people who annoy me, and how materialistic a High Schooler I was. Fast forward to 2014 and nothing really has changed. Perhaps except that, I now know how to sugarcoat things. Haha!

These days, my dad is putting responsibilities on my shoulder by assigning tasks that would (hopefully) help his company as it meets the demands of the projects for November. I'm particularly designated in the Pacquiao fight department, which I am enthusiastic for since there's hardly any marketing effort needed to sell his pay-per-view right aside from being contacted to set up satellite dishes for. He's Pacquiao; and to every Filipino, myself included, he's a hero. As soon as the 2nd week of November set in, everyone in the company devoted the bulk of its brain and labor to the boxing champ's fight. I had to call tens of cinema managers all over Luzon to secure passes. It was tiring but I couldn't help but feel very excited!

I'm petulantly stopping myself from spouting out my fangirl screams over Pacquiao's overwhelming win against Algieri yesterday because I cannot articulate my happiness into precise words without shrieking aloud. Algieri, on one hand, impressed me not so much for his boxing style although his endurance to have lasted for 12 rounds was laudable but because of how much of a gentleman he's been in accepting his defeat. (I'm not discounting that his academic accomplishments wowed me more initially). All in all, the fight served its purpose in establishing that Manny's on his way back to the top after his defeat from Marquez in 2012.

For having put the Philippines on the map, there has to be some percentage of immunity bestowed on Pacquiao. The principle covers his tax issues. Perhaps I'm misinformed or my knowledge, as usual, is limited (it still baffles me how I've gotten a really good grade in my Income Taxation class to be honest) but he has to be awarded a leeway.

Unlike the satellite dishes my Dad occasionally installs at home whenever there's a big international sports event that we want to tune into, this time's satellite is as small as a wee baby. Boo. My closet is shrinking, I noticed, that's why I have no choice but to constantly re-use my clothes. To somehow offer the illusion of a dress, I picked my top and skirt in the same print. Oh the problems of a penniless girl. Woe is me! Hahahahaha.

Connection is Stronger at Home

I strongly believe that a person is greatly shaped by the environment she is exposed most to. Her thoughts, in one way or another, mirror her response to what she receives from the people who influence her the most. It might not be true in all situations but I personally believe that a person is an extension of the kind of parents she have. I don't mean to offend but since I was raised by parents who give great importance to the family, I stand firm for the same belief. But hey it's just me. It's only an opinion and at the end of the day, it only comes second to my life's motto: To each his own. Believe in whatever works best for you :) Now, let me segue to where we can all meet at the same level - isn't finding a satellite outside your house just plain cool? Or is it just me and my tendency to appreciate things that are weird? Hahaha. I'm having a proud Filipino moment once again because Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to box against his arch-nemesis (would it be so bad to liken their relationship to Perry the platypus and Doofenshmirtz?) Manuel Marquez on the 8th of December (9th in the Philippines) for the 4th time. My country would have another zero-crime rate day. Awesome, right?

When you step out of our house and look sideways, you'd see a 6-ft satellite dish planted on the vacant lot beside ours. My dad set it up so that I can have a good background for my pictures. Or at least, that's what I made myself think. Harhar. He set it up so that he can monitor how strong the signal is (and also for us to have free live viewing of the fight). Pacqiao fans talaga kasi kami.

The Champ

A wise man once said, "Love whatever feeds you". The day before the Pacquiao-Bradley fight, I was with my dad the entire day helping him, or rather slowing his work down, do last minute touches in some malls where the live streaming of the fight would be shown. My dad has been contracted to provide signal in more than 60 malls all over Luzon. Pacquiao fights are one of his numerous projects so the more Pacquiao fight there is, the better it is for my dad. Haha! In my first time to assist him, he brought me to the control room of the cinemas in SM Canlubang. If only I was allowed to take pictures of the room, it'll be easier to describe how awesome things work up there. A piece of advice my friends, never do anything 'unusual' or 'inappropriate' when watching movies. Trust me, everything you do, absolutely everything, is seen from above. I was up there in the control room. I saw how the movies are translated to the huge screen. When I got bored from getting amazed by the technology, I sneaked into the holes to see the movie on the big screen and observe at what the viewers were doing. It was quite funny seeing everything from a bird's eyeview. Let me say this again, don't do anything stupid in the cinemas else you'll just provide free show for whoever is manning the control room ;)

Another perk of my dad's work is that, we had free installation of the fight in our house. Imagine seeing huge satellite in your backyard, that's how it was for me. 'twas really cool. The only thing uncool about the Champ's recent fight was, he lost. For some unexplainable and unacceptable reason, he lost. He frigging lost!

The dish outside our house was about 4 feet. Imagine my surprise and our neighbors' shock. Haha!

Months before the fight, dad wanted to show his support to the Champ by buying his limited edition Manny Pacquiao Nike shoes. Syempre todo suporta na. Win or lose, we're in Team Pacquiao!!! Go knock your opponent out the next time, Pacman!
